About the play
A big win at Lotto could be Pasquale De Felice’s for the taking, but with it comes the terrible knowledge that the “lucky” numbers he received in a dream also spell out the precise date of his death! When he tells his family, the news is greeted with scepticism, especially by Maddalena, his much younger second wife: first she thinks Pasquale is drunk, as usual, but when the big win materialises and he tells them that he must die in just eight months’ time, thirty days after his next birthday, at 1pm precisely, Maddalena rejoices. A bewildered and tormented Pasquale can only watch while his family show no scruple of conscience in enjoying their windfall. As the fatal hour rapidly approaches, everyone is making ready for the predicted “passing on” of Pasquale. As the clock moves towards 1pm on the fatal day …
