About the play
L’Aria del Continente by Nino Martoglio is a delightful Sicilian comedy written in 1916. It deals essentially with the problems of an individual who has decided to break with all the accepted conventions of his background and to assume a new set of more liberal and enlightened ones, only to find, to his great disappointment, that “to do as the Romans do” might work in Rome but not in Sicily.
