About the play
Eduardo De Filippo in this very amusing two-act farce Ditegli sempre di sé (1927), which literally translated means “Always tell him yes”, intended to condemn the way in which language is used – or abused – by individuals in the social context when they have to express something which in its raw reality is difficult for one to have to admit to; it is more convenient and much easier to distort the truth by avoiding to tell things as they really are, and in this way they are often allowed to present their own version of the truth simply by being very particular about the kind of language they use albeit within the bounds of well practised social conventions.
